“Too sensitive,” “too shy,” “emotionally fragile,” “clingy,” “naive,” “emotionally dependent,” “can’t handle their emotions”…
These are just some of the labels often stuck onto highly sensitive people — emotional sponges who feel everything intensely, deeply, and sometimes overwhelmingly. For many, this heightened sensitivity brings suffering, exhaustion, and a constant feeling of being out of sync with the world.
And yet, behind what appears to be a weakness lies an incredible strength.
What does it mean to be a highly sensitive person?
High sensitivity refers to an above-average responsiveness to emotional and sensory stimuli. It’s the capacity to feel things more vividly than most people — which can be experienced as a burden by the person themselves and misunderstood as “exaggerated” or even “too much” by others.
Psychologist Elaine Aron estimates that around 15 to 20% of the population is highly sensitive.
Recent neuroscience research supports this, showing that highly sensitive individuals have increased activity in areas of the brain related to empathy and sensory processing, including a higher concentration of mirror neurons — the cells responsible for helping us feel and mirror what others are experiencing.
So no, it’s not “in your head” — it’s a neurobiological reality.
Key traits of highly sensitive people
-
Deep empathy, sometimes overwhelming
-
Heightened senses (light, sound, smell — everything feels more intense)
-
An active, branching mind (also called “tree-like” thinking)
-
A strong sense of justice and integrity
-
Natural creativity that flourishes when given space
-
High sensitivity to criticism, often leading to people-pleasing behavior
-
A deep bond with nature and animals, sources of comfort and intuition
-
A strong intuitive sense
But without tools or understanding, this sensitivity can become a source of distress — leading to anxiety, self-isolation, or emotional overwhelm.
When sensitivity becomes a burden
When misunderstood or repressed, high sensitivity can turn into self-doubt, emotional shutdown, or over-adaptation.
Trying to fit in or constantly comparing oneself to others often leads to a loss of self-confidence, and a disconnection from one’s own emotional compass.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Sensitivity can be transformed into a real superpower.
Turning high sensitivity into a strength — a therapeutic path
In my sessions, I offer a therapeutic approach that helps sensitive individuals reconnect with themselves and embrace their uniqueness.
This journey includes:
-
Kinesiology, to release emotional blockages, identify limiting beliefs, and restore energetic balance
-
Hypnosis, to ease anxiety, rewire unhelpful mental patterns, and tap into inner resources
-
Primitive reflex integration, to help the nervous system self-regulate through movements that address active reflexes like Moro or Fear Paralysis
-
Maieusthesia, a gentle and profound method to welcome and reintegrate emotional wounds and forgotten parts of the self
What if your sensitivity became your superpower?
When a highly sensitive person learns to recognize and honor their needs, they can finally use their gifts to thrive — not just survive.
They become their own emotional compass, developing fine-tuned intuition, deep empathy, and vibrant creativity.
They learn to set healthy boundaries, trust their instincts, and live in alignment with their true self.
And one day, they can truly say:
“I’m a highly sensitive person… and I’m proud of it.”
